National Olympiad of Informatics (NOI)

The National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) is organized by the ACM Student Chapter of the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education for secondary school students all over the country. In this competition, contestants have to write computer programs to solve a given set of problems, within a limited time. Competing at NOI puts the problem-solving, critical thinking, and logical thinking abilities of students to work.

Only a limited number of students, 16 to be precise will receive the opportunity to participate in the Final Round of this competition.

NOI also serves as the competition which is used to select the Sri Lankan Delegation for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) competition, held annually, in Indonesia this year.

Qualifier Round of NOI 2022

8 students have already been selected to participate in this competition based on their performance at the Monthly Practice Contests and Training Sessions that were carried out in parallel to NOI 2022. The remaining 8 contestants will be chosen from the NOI Qualifier Round which will be happening on Saturday, the 25th of June, online via HackerRank Platform. The competition will start at 8.00 am and span for 12 hours where contestants can attempt the problems.

Final Round of NOI 2022

The top-scoring 8 students of the Qualifier Round will receive the opportunity to participate in the Final Round of the NOI 2022. This round will be happening on the 2nd and 3rd of July, 2022 in the UCSC Premises.

The top 4 contestants of the Final Round of NOI 2022 will get the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka at the International Olympiad in Informatics 2022(IOI) which will be held in Indonesia.

Competition Guidelines

  • Any school student who is under the age of 20 by the 1st of July 2022 will be eligible to participate in NOI 2022.
  • Contestants who were already selected for the final round from the monthly contests will be disqualified in the final leaderboard of the Qualifier Round.
  • Each submitted code must be written in C++. No other programming languages are permitted as per the IOI rules.
  • Competitors are allowed to refer to the language documentation of C++.
  • Competitors must work alone.
  • Competitors are allowed to use a dictionary to overcome the language barrier when necessary.
  • Competitors will write programs to compute the solutions and submit the solutions for evaluation via the HackerRank platform.
  • Each task will be divided into several subtasks, each worth a portion of the total points.
  • Time and memory limits will be specified for every task. In general, time and memory limits will be generous (for example, double those required by the expected solution). The memory limit is the overall memory usage including executable code size, stack, heap, etc.
  • The solutions must be original. Any case of code plagiarism will disqualify the competitor.
  • To be eligible for the Participation Certificate, contestants must score more than zero points in the qualifier round.
  • The decision of the scientific committee of the National Olympiad in Informatics is final in all matters.
